dolphins-bannerIn 2012, Lama Lama Rangers with Drs’ Helen Penrose and Isabel Beasley from James Cook University (JCU) commenced work to increase knowledge of the occurrence and threats towards inshore dolphins and dugongs in Lama Lama Sea Country.

After an 18-month engagement and consultation phase, a Research Partnership Agreement between JCU and the Yintjingga Aboriginal Corporation was formalised and served as a working document to guide us on this collaborative project.

The project included training of Lama Lama Rangers in the ‘scientific’ style of boat-based dolphin and dugong surveys in Lama Lama Sea Country, as well as conducting surveys.
