Education is key to a bright future for Lama Lama People. In May 2013, we established our Junior Ranger program which focuses on teaching our children the importance of conserving our Country, culture and traditions through activity-based education.

The Junior Ranger activities take place during school holidays and occasionally on weekends. Activities involve the wider Lama Lama community and the Lama Lama Ranger Program.

Activities include participation in flora and fauna monitoring, and conservation and cultural education programs. We hope to inspire our young people through the Junior Ranger program to maintain their cultural connection to Country while learning more about the values of Lama Lama Country.

Our program also provides a stepping stone for future career choices. We offer activities for pre-school, junior school and high school aged students, while older students can participate in our Pathways Program.  This program is delivered bi-annually enabling students to visit educational institutions and different workplaces to learn about the post-school opportunities like further education, apprenticeships and traineeships or ranger work opportunities on Lama Lama Country.

The Junior Ranger program also provides paid work experience for Lama Lama secondary students during the school holidays, offering them a taste of what it is like to work in natural and cultural resource management.
